Shatter Me by Taheren Mafi Juliette Ferrar is 17 and has been alone and jailed for almost a year, 264 days to be exact. Juliette has a gift or curse as she likes to call it, her touch causes pain and eventually death. This is something the government want to control and use for their benefit. On day 264 she is given a cell mate, Adam, who is immune to her touch. Coincidence, I think not, he is working for the government. They want him to get Juliette to come over to their side. But things are never that simple, Adam falls for Juliette and together they try to defeat the "Establishment". This book is the first in a trilogy. Juliette's character starts out a bit whiny but as the story develops so does her character. If you are a fan of dystopian novels with romance thrown in you will not be disappointed.
Caring is Creepy by David Zimmerman Lynn Sugrue is a 15 year old self-centered, manipulating, all around nasty teenager. I found myself really disliking her and her best friend, Dani, by the end of the book but it did not stop me from reading it. Lynn's mother is a nurse who works too much and is too busy with her pill popping boyfriend, Hayes, to notice that her daughter is playing a very dangerous game. Enter Logan, a 25 year old soldier in the Army, who meets Lynn on the internet. Logan has his own troubles. He is AWOL. I found this part of the story a little hard to believe, I would like to think that no matter how busy or distracted a parent might be they would notice their 15 year old daughter having a relationship with a 25 year old man. Everything comes together in the end and Lynn's world will never be the same.
